Just to avoid confusion God includes, God the Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit.
There are Consequences behind every decision
There are times we have big decisions to make. For example, do we sell our home and move because of a job opportunity. Sometimes the decisions are small or they seem to be when we are making them. Have you ever taken an event in your life and thought about events that led up to that event. I’ll share a story that will help me explain. When I was 9 years old, it was June 26, 1976, and my dad was fixing barbed wire fence out in the field. My mom was on her way home from a short trip and I decided I was going to ride our year old calf. He was friendly, I could get on him and he wouldn’t move at all. So I would reach around and grab his tail and pull it. That worked great, we would take off and I would get a ride. Like I said, it worked great, until he ran and the put the breaks on and I went sailing head first over his head. I flew through the air with my arms out stretched and I landed with what sounded like a gun shot. I stood up, looked around and didn’t see anybody shooting so I went to get back on the calf. When I went to grab the rope around his chest I couldn’t grasp it. I looked down at my arm and it was dangling. I had broken it. I broke both bones just below my elbow and I also dislocated my elbow. As you can imagine, there were a lot of consequences from the simple decision to ride the calf.
Additionally, I had a choice before I decided to ride the calf. First of all my mom had told me not to ride him, but she wasn’t home. So I made a choice to disobey her because she wasn’t home. One simple choice on my part led to a broken arm, dislocated elbow, two surgeries and 8 weeks in a cast and that was the beginning of a lifetime of questions. The real answer: I should have listened to my mom.
Growing a relationship with God
Now that I’m older, and my mom has gone to be with the Lord, I must remember the wisdom she left me with. And, I know that I must have a relationship with the Lord. No matter what situation I find myself in, that the best resource beyond what my mom taught me is the Lord.
Deuteronomy 31:6 says, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you”.
It doesn’t matter where you are or what you may be doing, you can go to the God. Pray to him, talk to him on a regular basis. Get to know him. As you get to know him you’ll understand when Holy Spirit is talking to you. You’ll recognize His voice and then pay attention and your discernment meter will be more accurate. Have faith in what you’re being told.
2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we live by faith, not by sight”.
As you continue your relationship with the Lord and you continue to read and study the Bible making decisions and knowing what the answer is becomes less stressful. That’s because you’re not leaning on your own understanding but you are trusting and have faith in the Lord and what He imparts on you.
As you walk with the God and your relationship gets stronger and stronger you begin to realize that no matter how mature you are in the Lord, you also realize that you are just scratching the surface of knowing the Him. And the real answer, no matter what the question is, is to continue pursuing Him every day of your life and in every aspect of your life.
As we go through life there are so many decisions we need to make, big decisions or little decisions, that may not be little in the long run. No matter the decision the Lord is right beside us and including him in the decision will reap benefits.
Thank you Jesus for being available to us when we need you. Thank you for guiding us and protecting us day in and day out. Thank you for Holy Spirit and how He communicates with us and helps protect us. Thank you for all that you have done for us. In your glorious name Jesus. Amen
